Artist Statement

Macleod’s new exploration in Painting is concerned with challenging the historically submissive nature of women in Portraiture, bringing focus to ‘ The Ascent of Women’ – the strength and empowerment of the Feminine.

This exploration is reflected in her representation in ‘Women of Standing’ – those she greatly respects and admires along with the Self,  working from life; she is intensely observing the passing of the present as it manifests itself upon others and her own directly reflected face; alongside the familiar gaze of the strong feminine.

Macleod’s past exploration Series: DIGITIZED SOCIETY explored female identity and questioned the way in which ‘digital media’ manipulated and controlled our lives and how those pressures and stresses of digital hyper-connectedness formed the ‘generic’ narcissistic values common in social media.
